Real-Time Road Intelligence — Keeping Putrajaya’s Drivers Informed
The Variable Message Sign (VMS) system — known locally as Sistem Paparan Mesej Berubah — represents Putrajaya’s primary infrastructure layer for delivering real-time traffic alerts and public information directly to road users. Installed at 8 strategic locations along Putrajaya’s primary arterial corridors, each VMS panel is connected to a centralized control server, enabling Perbadanan Putrajaya to broadcast traffic advisories, road closure notifications, weather warnings, and emergency announcements instantaneously across the network.

The deployments are concentrated along Persiaran Utara — Putrajaya’s principal east-west arterial — and Lebuh Sentosa, the primary north-south connector serving Presincts 9 and 10. VMS 8 at Presint 14 covers the Persiaran Timur corridor, providing information coverage on the city’s eastern approach routes.
System Capabilities
Real-Time Message Broadcasting
The VMS server platform allows Putrajaya Command Centre (PCC) operators to:
- Publish live traffic advisories — congestion levels, incident alerts, expected travel times
- Issue road closure notifications — planned works, event-related closures, emergency diversions
- Broadcast weather warnings — flash flood alerts relevant to Putrajaya’s corridor roads
- Display emergency public announcements — civil defence notifications, PDRM advisories
Smart Mobility Dashboard Integration
All VMS panel operations are monitored through Putrajaya’s Smart Mobility Dashboard, which also aggregates:
- Real-time traffic flow data: ~29,700 passenger cars and ~6,900 motorcycles entering Putrajaya daily
- Vehicle classification counts: buses (63/day inbound), trucks (176/day inbound)
- Total daily road utilisation across the 713.2 km network
IOC Integration
VMS status, content logs, and panel health data are streamed to the Integrated Operations Centre (IOC) for centralised situational awareness and incident response coordination.
Data processed in accordance with the Personal Data Protection Act 2010 (PDPA). No personal or biometric data is collected by VMS panels; the system is a one-way public broadcast infrastructure.
