E-Tasik — Putrajaya Lake Activity Management System

Putrajaya Lake — spanning 650 hectares with over 29 kilometres of lakeside promenade — is not merely Putrajaya’s most iconic landscape asset, but a core blue infrastructure that underpins the quality of life for 125,200 residents and attracts millions of visitors annually. To ensure this invaluable lake ecosystem is governed sustainably and transparently, Perbadanan Putrajaya introduced the E-Tasik System — a centralised digital application platform that replaces manual, paper-based processes with a seamless, fast, and reliable user experience.

Function & Operations

The E-Tasik System operates as the single digital control centre for all forms of access and use of Putrajaya’s Lake & Wetland areas. Managed by the Environment, Lake and Wetland Division, Urban Planning Department, the system receives, processes, approves, and issues permits automatically — eliminating the need for applicants to visit physical counters or submit printed forms.

Four application categories are available through the E-Tasik System:

1. Lake Activity Application

Applications for activities at the lake and lakeside promenade (sisiran tasik) — including water sports, recreational events, community programmes, film and photography shoots, and any other activities requiring authorised use of the lake area.

2. Lake Water Extraction Application

Applications for lake water extraction for landscape irrigation or construction site washing purposes. The process requires technical approval to ensure extraction does not adversely impact lake water levels or ecological balance.

3. Academic Research Application

Applications for scientific studies, field research, and data collection on water quality, hydrology, dam systems, and lake and wetland flora and fauna. This category opens structured access to the lake ecosystem for university researchers and scientific agencies, advancing knowledge on urban lake ecosystems.

4. Technical Visit / Benchmarking Application

Applications for technical visits or benchmarking programmes for learning, knowledge exchange, and best practice sharing in lake and wetland management — including delegations from international organisations, federal agencies, and educational institutions.

System Architecture

The E-Tasik platform is supported by a reliable, high-scalability digital ecosystem:

  • E-Tasik Web Portal (etasik.ppj.gov.my): A web-based user interface enabling applicants to register, complete application forms, upload supporting documents, and track application status at any time from any device.
  • PHP / Laravel Framework: The application logic engine ensures approval workflows run automatically, with data validation and input checks completed before applications reach reviewing officers.
  • Centralised MySQL Database: Stores records of all applications, booking slots, current capacities, and approval histories — enabling management to prevent scheduling conflicts and analyse lake usage patterns over time.

Public Impact

The E-Tasik System represents a paradigm shift in how Perbadanan Putrajaya governs public access to its most valuable natural asset. By moving the entire application process to a fully digital platform, processing time is dramatically reduced while transparency and approval accountability are improved. For the research and academic community, the system opens structured access to the lake ecosystem for scientific data collection that supports the long-term sustainable management of Putrajaya Lake — aligned with SDG 6 (Clean Water & Sanitation) and SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities & Communities).
