Overview
Rapid On Demand (ROD) — Smart On-Demand Transit for Putrajaya
Rapid On Demand (ROD) is Prasarana Malaysia Berhad’s app-based, on-demand bus service that connects Putrajaya’s residential presints to the MRT Putrajaya Sentral interchange hub. Unlike fixed-route buses, ROD uses a dynamic demand-responsive model — residents book a trip via the Rapid Bus app, and the service deploys buses based on real-time demand and optimal routing. This makes it a cornerstone of Putrajaya’s first and last mile connectivity strategy, enabling seamless integration with the Klang Valley MRT network.
In 2025, ROD recorded 115,496 active passenger trips across its 5 operational zones in Putrajaya — generating an IND-36 score of 92.25%.

Service Model — Demand-Responsive Transit
ROD operates fundamentally differently from conventional fixed-route buses:
| Feature | Conventional Bus | Rapid On Demand (ROD) |
|---|---|---|
| Route | Fixed timetable and stops | Dynamic — responds to real-time booking demand |
| Booking | Walk-up | App-based pre-booking via Rapid Bus app |
| Dispatch | Scheduled | On-demand — triggered by passenger requests |
| Capacity | Full bus regardless of load | Optimised fleet dispatch — right-size vehicles |
| Sharing | Fixed | Demand-pooling — multiple passengers per trip |
| Payment | Cash / card | Cashless — Touch ‘n Go, e-Wallet, Rapid app |
This model makes ROD a true sharing economy transport service — qualifying under IND-36 methodology as active users share trip resources rather than booking dedicated private vehicles.
First & Last Mile Integration with MRT
All ROD zones are anchored to MRT Putrajaya Sentral as the primary interchange hub, enabling seamless multimodal journeys:
| Journey Phase | Mode | Connection |
|---|---|---|
| Residential Presint → MRT Station | ROD (on-demand bus) | T508B / T512B / T513B / T514B |
| MRT Putrajaya Sentral → Klang Valley | MRT Putrajaya Line | Direct rail access to KL city centre |
| Return journey | ROD (reverse direction) | Same zone routes |
This positions ROD as Putrajaya’s critical first and last mile solution — reducing private car dependency for the journey between home and the MRT network.
PSCB Blueprint Alignment
This initiative aligns with Smart Application 1.3: Smart Public Transport and 1.4: First & Last Mile Connectivity under the Putrajaya Smart City Blueprint (PSCB).
Objective: Increase the proportion of Putrajaya residents using shared, app-based public transport — reducing private vehicle trips and carbon emissions while maximising the catchment area of MRT Putrajaya Sentral.
Desired Outcomes:
- Sustain IND-36 score above 90% through continued ROD service expansion and zone consolidation.
- Increase ridership year-on-year through service quality improvements and app adoption.
- Expand ROD coverage to additional presints not yet served.
- Reduce private car modal share through integrated MRT-ROD journey planning.
