The Smart Environment domain of the Malaysia Smart City Framework (MSCF) prioritises the sustainable management of natural resources, the mitigation of urban ecological impacts, and the enhancement of municipal climate resilience. It establishes the national standard for integrating advanced technology with environmental stewardship to protect green and blue infrastructure across Malaysian cities.
Key focus areas include real-time air and water quality monitoring using IoT sensor networks, intelligent solid waste management systems, SCADA-enabled stormwater and flood mitigation architectures, and data-driven urban heat island reduction strategies. By operationalising this domain, cities can transition from reactive environmental remediation to proactive, predictive ecological management.
In Putrajaya, this national framework translates directly into the city's Smart Home & Environment initiatives—most notably the deployment of the Integrated Environment Monitoring System (IEMS) and automated lake telemetry networks, ensuring the federal capital maintains its core identity as a sustainable Garden City.
