AI Cities: Smart Tree Inventory & Risk Monitoring modernizes Putrajaya’s urban forestry by combining AI, Mobile LiDAR, and IoT tilt sensors to build a digital twin of 29,000 trees. This initiative enables automated risk assessment, real-time hazard monitoring, and carbon tracking via centralized dashboards. Ultimately, the project optimizes resource management and enhances public safety, serving as a scalable model for climate resilience under the Putrajaya Visionary Smart City 2030 initiative.

OVERVIEW

Putrajaya, Malaysia’s federal administrative capital, hosts over 700,000trees. Traditional management was labour-intensive, reactive, andlimited in detecting risks, monitoring conditions, and long-term planning.To address this, Perbadanan Putrajaya launched AI Cities: Smart TreeInventory & Risk Monitoring with Mapskart Technology, Greehill, andsupport from MDEC. The project combines AI, Mobile LiDAR, DigitalTwin, predictive analytics, and IoT monitoring to modernize urban forestmanagement. ​

​To date, 29,000 trees have been digitally inventoried and modelledusing Greehill’s AI platform, creating a digital twin of Putrajaya’s urbanforest. Additionally, 100 IoT tilt sensors were deployed on high-risk treesvia Mapskart’s solution for real-time monitoring and early warnings. Theplatform enables automated inventory, risk assessment, carbontracking, and predictive maintenance through centralized dashboardsand analytics. ​

​Results include identification of hazardous trees, prioritizedmaintenance, resource optimization, and improved public safety. Theinitiative supports Putrajaya Visionary Smart City 2030 by enhancingclimate resilience, environmental sustainability, and operationalefficiency, and provides a scalable, replicable model for AI-poweredurban forestry. ​
